Softball Update

So far the Knights have had a pretty good start to the season. They are currently 2-1 and have played really well together as a team. They have also continued to have the most fans at every game...people and dogs included :)

This past week was a little rough. It was our turn to bat and Justin was at 2nd. The guy at bat hit and Justin headed off to third when he realized that it was caught so he needed to get back to 2nd. He ran and slid (and unfortunately was out). He went back to the dug out when I realized that there was group of guys standing around him. My "wife radar" went off because I knew something was wrong. And I was right...

The second baseman stepped on Justin's hand when he slid into second, and it split Justin's finger wide open at the first crease in his finger. The guy was wearing football cleats instead of softball cleats (which are not made of the same soft rubber material), so it did a lot more damage than softball cleats would have.

Luckily, some responsible wife (cough,cough) had packed a small first aid kit in the bottom of Justin's bag "just in case". They guys taped Justin's finger up and he played the rest of the game. Did I mention we won 11-5?

We headed home and went next door so Micah (who is a paramedic) could take a look at Justin's finger. About 5 minutes later we were in the car on the way to the ER because we were going to need some x-rays and stitches.

Luckily it was not broken! After numbing his hand, they gave him 5 stitches. Justin was so brave!

While we were waiting to be released, Justin made friends with Beverly. She was very nice and had LOTS to talk about! Talking to her made the time go by pretty fast.

All wrapped up and ready to go home.


5 stitches and a prescription later, Justin is on his way to a full recovery! He will have to "coach" next week, but should be able to play all the games after that (he can't play until the stitches are out).

Let's hope this is our last ER visit for a long while!
